Trump’s Inflation Win: Prices Drop for First Time Since 2020

For the first time since May 2020, month-over-month inflation has decreased. This was largely due to a 2.4% drop in overall energy prices, including a sharp 6.3% reduction in gasoline prices.

This is major news in the Trump administration’s efforts to fix the mess left behind by the incompetent Biden administration. Inflation was not a problem during Trump’s first term, a big reason why voters looked back at his first term so fondly. It wasn’t until Biden took office and passed all these huge spending bills that inflation dramatically spiked.

Many media outlets and economic “experts” have warned that Trump’s new tariffs would lead to a spike in the cost of everyday goods. And even if you grant that hypothesis (which is somewhat debatable, considering all the factors that go into determining product prices), the news of a 90-day pause on tariffs for all countries except China should reduce fears of a dramatic increase in the cost of living.

The President went on Truth Social to brag about the news of the reduction of Inflation, proclaiming “INFLATION IS DOWN!!!”.

The administration needs to make sure the news that inflation has gone down for the first time since 2020 is blasted all across the airwaves. This is a huge political winner for them.

These figures are detailed in the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Consumer Price Index Summary for March 2025. You can read the information here
