Trump takes victory lap at the Justice Department
On Friday, President Trump gave a speech to the very organization that tried to put him in jail. Trump spent much of the speech going after his political enemies, even naming people of the likes of Andrew Weissmann and Norm Eisen. He scolded the Justice Department for becoming political but pledged his administration would change that.
"Our predecessors turned the Department of Justice into the Department of Injustice," Trump said.
"I stand before you today to declare that those days are over, and they are never going to come back."
Democrats spent much of the past nine years using the legal system as a way to go after Trump, the mueller investigation, the two impeachments, lawsuits to get Trump off the ballot, and the 4 indictments, but ultimately the tactic failed to politically kill Trump.
Trump’s overall message to the justice department can be summed up by this part of his speech.
“First, we must be honest about the lies and the abuses that have occurred within these walls,” Trump said. “Unfortunately in recent years, a corrupt group of hacks and radicals within the ranks of the American government obliterated the trust and goodwill built up over generations. They weaponized the vast powers of our intelligence and law enforcement agencies to try and thwart the will of the American people.”
Well said Mr. President.
