Trump Keeps Criticizing Russia: He Should Stop

Trump today on Truth Social criticized Russia for striking Kyiv:
“I am not happy with the Russian strikes on KYIV. Not necessary, and very bad timing. Vladimir, STOP! 5000 soldiers a week are dying,” Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform. “Let’s get the Peace Deal DONE!”

Lately, Trump has been more willing to criticize Russia as the U.S. tries to negotiate a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia to end the war. The issue is that criticizing Russia serves no real benefit. Russia has no incentive to end the war right now, as they’re winning. So, criticizing them doesn’t move the ball toward peace. Criticizing Ukraine’s Zelensky doesn’t help either, since they don’t have the leverage — as Trump says, we need to accept the realities on the ground.
While it’s possible Trump is criticizing Russia just to avoid looking like he’s giving in to all their demands for peace, it’s also possible he’s listening too much to the neocon establishment — people like Marco Rubio, Mike Waltz, and General Kellogg. If the administration can’t get a deal done between Russia and Ukraine, then Trump needs to cut the funding and clean the U.S.’s hands of the conflict.
This is not our war, and it doesn’t benefit the U.S. to keep funding Ukraine. The media and the neocon establishment have never demonstrated what tangible benefit supporting Ukraine brings to the everyday American. It’s time to end the war — or at the very least, end U.S. involvement in it.
