Trump Attacks The Lawfare Against Marine Le Pen
President Trump, via Truth Social, defended Marine Le Pen from the “lawfare” she is experiencing in France. Le Pen was convicted of a crime related to embezzling European Union funds, resulting in a 5 year sentence and being barred from running for president for five years.
Trump compared her legal troubles to his own. He was also convicted of a so-called “bookkeeping” crime, and his opponents attempted to keep him off the ballot during the 2024 presidential primaries.
“The witch hunt against Marine Le Pen is another example of European leftists using lawfare to silence free speech and censor their political opponents—this time going so far as to put that opponent in prison. It is the same playbook that was used against me by a group of lunatics and losers like Norm Eisen, Andrew Weissmann, and Lisa Monaco. They spent the last nine years thinking of nothing else, and they FAILED because the people of the United States realized that they were only corrupt lawyers and politicians,” Trump wrote.

Trump also acknowledged that he does not personally know Marine Le Pen but expressed appreciation for her perseverance despite her electoral setbacks. Trump ended his post writing in all caps “FREE MARINE LE PEN”.
Le Pen’s lawyers have made clear they intend to appeal the verdict.
