Supreme Court Halts Deportations Amid Legal Clash Over Alien Enemies Act

The U.S. Supreme Court has temporarily halted the deportation of Venezuelan immigrants detained in Texas under the 1798 Alien Enemies Act. This decision responds to an emergency appeal from the ACLU, which argued that the Trump administration was attempting to deport detainees without granting them due process.
The administration claims these individuals are affiliated with the Tren de Aragua gang, but attorneys argue there’s little evidence supporting these affiliations. The Supreme Court’s order prevents any deportations from the Bluebonnet Detention Center until further notice, while lower courts continue to examine the administration’s procedures and potential contempt for previous court orders.
The Trump administration had hoped the Aliens Enemies Act was a tool to quickly deport illegal immigrants without having to go through the long legal process, but this strategy may prove to not be legally viable.
Thomas and Alito dissented in the decision.

This is a developing story.
