From Favorite to Forgotten: The DeSantis Decline

Ron DeSantis, who at one point seemed destined to dethrone Donald Trump as the party’s standard-bearer, has completely lost relevance.

JD Vance has become the clear frontrunner for the Republican nomination in 2028, according to the latest poll from the highly reliable AtlasIntel. Vance is polling at nearly 60% support, while the failed 2024 presidential candidate Ron DeSantis trails far behind in second place with less than 9%.

It’s somewhat sad to witness DeSantis’s fall from grace. He was once a promising governor with a real opportunity to be Trump’s successor—if he had played his cards right. Instead, he’s now a man on his way out of office, with no real political future. The Trump base no longer trusts him, largely because he challenged Trump for the 2024 nomination.
