DeSantis Backer Kim Reynolds Won’t Seek Re-Election In Iowa.

Kim Reynolds has announced that she will not be seeking reelection for the governorship of Iowa in 2026. This comes as a bit of a surprise, as she easily won re-election in 2022, receiving 58% of the vote in that election.
A recent poll from the left-leaning outlet Morning Consult showed Reynolds five points underwater. She was the only governor in the survey with a negative approval rating.
Reynolds famously backed Ron DeSantis in the Republican primary, hoping to give him a boost in the first contest—the Iowa caucus. That obviously didn’t work and ended up alienating Reynolds in the eyes of Trump supporters. Considering all the legal peril Trump was facing at the time, supporting anyone else was seen as a major betrayal by much of the Republican base. So even when Reynolds got on the Trump train after he became the nominee, there has definitely been a lack of trust ever since.
The open governor’s race should definitely be Republican-favored, but the election mafia will probably try to push a narrative that Iowa has a decent shot of electing a Democrat governor—citing it being a midterm with Trump in the White House. However, we at The Right-Wing Populist view the governor’s seat as close to a safe Republican hold.
