Deja Vu: The Flynn Playbook Returns for Hegseth

It’s clear the knives are out for Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. Several hit pieces came out yesterday, claiming Hegseth had a separate Signal group chat that also discussed classified information. This comes after Hegseth received massive criticism for the Signal chat leak—even though it was Mike Waltz who let the Atlantic journalist into the chat. It’s clear Hegseth is the target.
Pete Hegseth is not a neocon like most Secretaries of Defense have been. He’s not necessarily a dove, but he is resistant to trying to solve all the world’s problems using guns and bombs. And that’s exactly why the establishment wants him out. For instance, it was reported that Hegseth was one of the people in Trump’s orbit who was not in favor of bombing alongside Israel, and instead favored a diplomatic solution. That stance has made the neocons in the Republican Party turn on him.
Take Ben Shapiro, for example. He criticized Hegseth by saying all the leaks from the Pentagon have come from the isolationist wing of the Republican Party. Respectfully, that’s bullshit. The leaks are coming from neocons who want the isolationists out of the Trump administration. When Ben Shapiro starts criticizing a national security figure like Pete Hegseth, it’s a sign that Hegseth is doing the right thing.

This is starting to feel similar to what happened to Michael Flynn back in 2017. You had a wave of leaks designed to force him out of the administration because the neocon establishment didn’t trust him. Through deception and FBI meddling, they got Flynn out, which isolated Trump and weakened his administration early on. We cannot allow the same thing to happen to Hegseth.
The Trump administration today released a statement saying that the president stands behind Pete Hegseth 100%. That’s great news. While he isn’t perfect, he’s far better than whoever the establishment would like to replace him with. He’s already shown his willingness to seek diplomatic solutions to global conflicts rather than rushing into war. He needs to stay in the administration.
Don’t fall for the neocon lies, Mr. President. Keep Pete Hegseth!
